Sir,
Sub.: Arafatism' should
disappear
It was a good sign when Abu
Ala and Abu Mazen ousted fast from the Palestinian government all six
ministers considered puppets of the late Arafat. But recently, watching
the TV covering of the Egyptian-Israeli-Palestinian meeting or
Mubarak-Sharon-Abu Mazen peace-talks in Sharm-el-Sheik, Egypt, I was
unpleasently surprised to see huge Arafat posters being on the wall in the
background.
As a ninty-year-old consumer
of media and of history, I have had the opportunities to see the rise, the
rule and the fall of several evil regimes; nazism, stalinism and
'arafatism' to name a few.
The simple rule I observed
is that a society can be healed of a sick period only when it is ready to
denounce its previous evil leaders and regime and brings down their
statues and symbols.
The Palestinians will be
mature for having their own democratic state only when they are ready to
strongly denounce their past terror and terrorist leader. One shouldn't
trust in any lip service instead.
Respectfully,
Ernest Nadai
